Mazda Australia

Mazda Australia Pty Ltd is an importer of Japanese motor vehicles. It currently (2007) accounts for up to 6.7 percent of the Australian Car Market. Mazda cars and light commercial vehicles have been available in Australia for more than 40 years.

A subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan, Mazda Australia has its Headquarters in Notting Hill, Victoria (15kms south-east of the Melbourne CBD) with offices in most mainland states. Mazda has storage facilities in each of these states, distributing Mazda cars through a national network of over 130 dealers.

Mazda Australia Pty Ltd has a staff of over 125, with a further 2,000 employed in the Mazda dealer network.

Mazda Australia sells a range of vehicles from the compact Mazda2 through to the rotary powered RX-8 4-door coupe, the CX-7 AWD Crossover and the BT-50 range of 1 tonne pick-ups and cab chassis.

Customer support is a proud feature of the company’s Australian operations. Mazda pioneered long term warranty periods in this market and their Customer Services Department has extensive resources and is available to all Mazda customers.

Mazda Japan

From its base in Hiroshima, Japan, Mazda Motor Corporation manufactures a diverse range of passenger cars and commercial vehicles and is one of the largest employers in western Japan, with 19,893 employees (as of 1 April 2006).

In calendar year 2006, Mazda produced some 966,547 cars and trucks at its two production facilities in Japan: Hiroshima and Hofu. In addition, Mazda cars were produced in the United States at Michigan-based AutoAlliance International Inc. Mazda cars and trucks are also currently assembled in 14 other countries around the world.

The Hiroshima plant is one of the largest single-site automobile manufacturing plants in the world, with an annual production capacity of about 500,000 units. Hofu plant I, which opened in September 1982, is capable of producing 230,000 vehicles per year. In February 1992, a highly advanced production facility, Hofu plant II, began operations at the site. The state-of-art Hofu plant II has an annual production capacity of 163,000 units. All of Mazda’s facilities feature ‘mixed-model’ production capability.

In the US, AutoAlliance International, Inc. (a joint venture between Mazda and Ford) have a work force of about 3,800 and an annual production capacity of approximately 240,000 vehicles.

Mazda products are exported to 141 nations around the world, with cumulative total exports of almost 20 million units.

Wherever Mazda products are sold, the same guiding principle prevails: the customer always comes first. High standards of customer service are maintained by more than 5000 Mazda dealerships abroad and 1,156 sales and service outlets in Japan (as of 31 March 2006). In Japan, there are several sales channels including Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Autozam.

Mazda has a global R&D network with operations in Japan, the United States and Germany.
